18th Annual Underwater Treasure Hunt 2012

On Sunday 25th March we held our 18th Annual Underwater Treasure Hunt and it was one of the best ones yet!

Sharkman!
With just under 100 people attending it made for a fantastic day out down at Shelly Beach!

Divers and Snorkelers alike took to the water to find as much Treasure (spuds) as they could!

Not only were people finding the treasure, so were the fish!!

Our two top lucky winners of the day were Andy, who won a Mike Ball Liveaboard trip, and Tiarnan, who won a diving trip to South West Rocks! Congratulations guys!

Tricky, Andy, Tiarnan and Bob

After the hype of the hunt everyone settled back and enjoyed some BBQ'ed snags in the sunshine!

A massive thank you to everyone who took part and all of our suppliers for providing some fantastic prizes! We cant wait to do it again next year!

A Fantastic Customer!

Its always nice to hear a customer has had an amazing experience learning to dive with us.
A big thank you goes out to Shaun for sending us through the lovely message below..

Hi Dive Centre Manly,
I just wanted to send you a brief email to thank for your an awesome learning experience.  I have just completed my open water certification with Tom Ward over the last 3 days.
I found Tom to be an awesome instructor, very professional, calm and enjoyable to be with.  I would not hesitate in taking another course with DCM and Tom in the future.. In fact I am planning on doing that very soon.  Advanced Open Water here I come.
I am very lucky that I live in the local area and can easierly use the facilities for DCM in the future.  Being a new diver you never know what to expect when you sign up for a course online sight unseen with a school.
But I thought the facilities you have with the pool the quality of the equipment and the level of knowledge of the instructors was fantastic.  Not to mention the fantastic location of Shelly Beach right at your door step.
As I said to Tom you only learn how to dive once and I am very happy I choose Dive Centre Manly to train me.
Were else can you learn with Halycon Equipment at one of the best dive sites in NSW?
Many Thanks Again and I look forward to seeing you in the water.
Kind Regards

Shaun Trumbull

Dive for Debris 2012

From the smallest bits of plastic, car batteries and appliances, to enormous fishing nets, "stuff" from our daily lives makes its way to the ocean by the ton every day. As Earths growing population consumes more disposable goods, the items we discard, even thousands of miles inland, are choking our ocean planet.

On Sunday 19th February we held DIVE FOR DEBRIS in partnership with Project AWARE.
Divers came and joined us on a clean up operation at one of our local diving sites, Manly Cove, inbetween Manly Wharf and Oceanworld.
As well as divers two representatives from The Two Hands project came down to help with cleaning up the beach and surrounding area.
www.twohandsproject.org

In total 1140 individual items of rubbish were collected, heres just a snippet of those items -
82 plastic bags
29 balloons
238 food wrappers
10 plastic toys
and 1 condom!!

We would just like to say a massive thank you to everyone who came down and took part!
You were all part of a growing movement of scuba divers in 180 countries collecting and reporting the underwater trash you found! We all have to work together to protect and preserve our beautiful oceans!

Here are some of the pictures from the day and more can be found on our facebook page.
